Budapest Great Market Hall Food Tour
At noon we'll meet at Vámház krt. and start our food tour in the Budapest Great Market Hall, during which you'll discover the distinctive qualities of Hungarian cuisine.
First of all, we'll take a look at the building's beautiful neo-Gothic structure and design, which was created by the university professor Samu Pecz. As we walk through the aisles of Hungary's largest covered market, we'll taste some of its specialties, such as Trappist cheeses, pickles, and hot buns with a variety of sausages.
We'll also be sure to discuss paprika, one of the main ingredients of Hungarian cuisine. Afterwards, we'll pass by the sweet food stalls to taste some different varieties of rétes (strudel), which are by far the most well-known sweet treat from the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Lastly, we'll try lángos, an appetiser made with fried bread and accompanied by ingredients such as sour cream, ham, tomato and cheese. Bon appetit!
Our food tour will finish at 2 pm outside the market. See you next time!
